* Visa-free travel: Sri Lanka recently decided to offer free tourist visas to travellers from India, Russia, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Japan until March 31, 2024, as part of a trial program.

Visa requirements

Most visitors to Sri Lanka need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) online before arrival. The ETA costs US$50 for a double-entry, 30-day tourist visa (US$20 for residents of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Pakistan).

You can apply for the ETA through the official website: http://www.eta.gov.lk/slvisa/

You will also need a passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival, a confirmed return ticket, and sufficient funds to meet the expenses during your stay. Some countries are exempt from the ETA requirement, such as Singapore, Maldives, and Seychelles. You can find out your eligibility by visiting the official website of the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka https://www.immigration.gov.lk
